Fjuel Streamlines Smart Energy Management of Shore Power

For years, Port of Trondheim has relied on Grieg Connect’s cutting-edge PORT system to keep operations running smoothly. Now, that Fjuel’s energy management platform integrates with PORT, shore power billing is now automated and more efficient than ever—eliminating manual work and optimizing operations.

Bjørnar Horsgård, Maritime Director at Port of Trondheim, expressed satisfaction with the new integration:

"The integration between Fjuel and PORT has provided us with a more streamlined approach to handling shore power in Port of Trondheim. Automated data flow between the systems allows us to reduce manual tasks, improve billing accuracy, and gain better insight into energy consumption and profitability. Additionally, Fjuel’s integration with Nord Pool gives us the flexibility to bill shore power based on dynamic electricity prices in the future. This enhances cost control and reduces the risk of losses due to price fluctuations. Overall, this makes our operations more efficient and better adapted to market fluctuations."

Fjuel offers a platform that consolidates data from various shore power and charging facilities, giving ports full operational visibility. This enables monitoring, control, and automated reading and billing of shore power and charging stations.

Fjuel + PORT gives better control

The integration between Fjuel and PORT involves a two-way data exchange where Fjuel receives arrival lists and vessel identification from PORT, while PORT receives billing data from Fjuel, including energy consumption, timestamps, and any additional costs based on port pricing models. This ensures seamless data flow between systems and facilitates more efficient management of port energy infrastructure.

Svetlana Hansen, CCO of Fjuel, commented on the collaboration:

"The project between Port of Trondheim, Fjuel, and Grieg Connect has gone smoothly, and we are pleased to offer all ports a comprehensive energy infrastructure platform with modern billing integration."

Bjørnar Horsgård also sees future opportunities with Fjuel:

"We see Fjuel as a partner in digitizing our smaller, existing power facilities, which are currently manually operated. This will eliminate the need for manual readings and cabinet access while consolidating all energy facilities—large and small—as well as charging infrastructure for ships and vehicles into one top-level system. The integration with PORT will further simplify and optimize our operations."

Espen Ranvik, CEO of Grieg Connect, emphasized the importance of the collaboration:

"The partnership with Fjuel demonstrates how Norwegian ports and technology providers can develop smart solutions together. Data sharing between specialized systems increases efficiency, and we are proud to offer a seamless billing solution for ports using Fjuel."

This integration marks a significant step forward for Port of Trondheim and sets a standard for how Fjuel can help ports to modernize and optimize their energy infrastructure through collaboration and digitalization.
