The project focuses on identifying customer needs, finding suitable areas, clarifying grid capacity, and exploring new models for collaboration and sharing among different stakeholders in the area.
Breivika is a key hub for transport and logistics in Tromsø, with limited terminal area and grid capacity. These constraints make it challenging for each operator to establish their own charging facilities. Therefore, a shared model is considered the most appropriate solution to meet the needs of all involved parties. Such a solution would professionalize the operation of the charging facility, ensure 24/7 availability, and contribute to a more efficient use of grid capacity and terminal area.
In addition to charging infrastructure for heavy transport, Breivika already offers shore power for ships, with plans for further expansion of such facilities. This increases the pressure on the existing grid capacity, necessitating smart solutions for planning and power supply to all stakeholders. Fjuel is taking the lead in facilitating optimal utilization of grid capacity, providing effective solutions for end users, and enabling sustainable investments for infrastructure owners.

The electrification of maritime and land transportation is crucial for achieving national and local climate goals. By collaborating on charging infrastructure and shore power in Breivika, we can pave the way for a more sustainable transport sector in Tromsø and the surrounding areas.
“The electrification of transport and shore power solutions in Breivika is a crucial step toward a more sustainable port infrastructure. A shared model for charging and shore power aligns perfectly with our vision of optimizing space, energy, and accessibility for all stakeholders. We look forward to collaborating on innovative solutions that benefit both the environment and the local transport sector.”
